Unclaimed Refunds for 2008 Tax Year: The IRS estimated over $1 billion in refunds available to individuals who did not file a federal tax return for 2008, with up to half of potential recipients due over $600. A 2008 return must be filed by 4/17/12 to collect any refund due. A chart included in the news release breaks down by state (1) the number of individuals who have a potential refund, (2) the median potential refund, and (3) the total potential refund in each state.
